Fishing in Martinique

Fishing in Martinique is world-renowned because of its location. The island is part of the Lesser Antilles, a volcanic island arc that stretches from Puerto Rico in the north to Grenada in the south. They form the eastern boundary of the Caribbean Sea with the Atlantic Ocean.

These islands emerged from the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean by lava emissions millions of years ago. The sea floor is a paradise for sea fishing in Martinique and the other Caribbean Islands. On the west side of Martinique, the sea floor falls to over 1000 meter (3300 ft) deep only 3 nautical miles from the coast. The east side of the island features a plateau, but then it also plunges to over 1000 meters (3300 ft) of depth.

The best time to go offshore fishing in Martinique is from June to January.

Although blue marlin and sailfish are around all year round, the best time of year for marlin fishing in Martinique is December, January and February.
Barracuda, wahoo and skipjack tuna are around all year round.

Dorado can be found in Martinique from November to February.
